Fall is well underway and the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, so I’m just in time to round up the fashion trends dominating the fall/winter season of 2022 and 2023. As for most people, fall is my favourite season fashion-wise. You can play around with multiple layers, different structures and fabrics and the darker colour palette just feels very chic.
This fall/winter, there are a couple of noteworthy trends to talk about. And while you should never follow a trend just because it exists, it’s fun to look and see if you can incorporate any of them in your day-to-day style. As a lot of ‘older’ trends are resurfacing, chances are that you might already own some related items!
1. 90s Minimalism
Talking about resurfacing trends! The 90s style is very much happening right now. And as with every trend, some items speak more to me than others (no thank you, low-waisted jeans). Luckily, the 90s minimalism trend is very versatile and you can pick and choose whatever you like. It’s all about simple basics such as tank tops, tube tops, long simple dresses (especially slip dresses) and straight-leg jeans. The effortless, minimal look is a classic and easy to create with a variety of basics you probably already own.
2. Leather season is back
On colder days, wearing faux leather items is like a never-ending love story. Leather pieces are warm, add a lot of interest to your outfit (imagine swapping a regular black blazer for a faux leather one) and they often look very chic too. Now, you can go for the traditional leather pieces such as a biker jacket, a blazer or trousers – and I highly recommend you do. But there are plenty of other items out there for you to experiment with. Such as jumpsuits, blouses, dresses and skirts. Layer them for the ultimate faux leather look.
3. Workwear and tailoring
If you’ve seen my instagram over the last couple of weeks you have probably noticed that I love myself a good pair of trousers. They are so comfortable and even make a t-shirt and sneaker combination look that much more sophisticated. One item in specific has been dominating social media lately: the waistcoat. It’s a simple piece but a twist to the classic two-piece blazer and trousers combination.
4. Oversized fits all
So this trend has been controversial for me. I’ve written about it before. I’ve always thought and said, oversized fits and a petite body aren’t a great combination. But with oversized fits taking over the blazer segment last year, I’ve decided to give it a go and I don’t want to go back! As long as you create balance amongst the pieces you’re wearing you’ll be able to rock an oversized fit. And always keep the rule of thirds in mind.
